Using items as story prompts

At this week’s Writers’ Tea and Chat, Karen brought along a collection of items for us to use as prompts for creating a story.

I’m still mulling over the best way to turn my item into a story. Which is why I am telling you all about it instead.

My challenge to you is simple. How many of these items can you tie together into a single story? Post your story on your blog (or submit it here if you don’t have a blog) and show us what you got. If you blog with WordPress and you link to this post, your story will be linked under the post for everyone to see.

Or, if you want to play along with us, pick one item to build your story around and include others if the muse takes you that way.

The items for this week:

  • Toy car
  • String
  • Paper napkin
  • Shot glass
  • Seashell
  • Draw knob
  • Bottle
  • Rusty lock
  • Bracelet
  • Apple (fake)
